Everyone’s a Photographer; That’s Really Important

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to speak at Ignite Seattle. My topic was photography; specifically the fact that everyone is a photographer now and why that is so damn important. Here’s a video of my presentation:

The Importance of Everyday Photography

I’m quite excited to announce that I’ve been selected as a speaker at Ignite Seattle 13. In a couple weeks, I’ll be taking the stage at Seattle’s King Cat Theater (along with several other presenters). I’m currently developing my talk with a title of “It Seems Everyone Thinks They’re a Photographer. That’s Awesome and Important.”

Delivered in the fast-paced, five-minutes-twenty-slides Ignite format, I’ll be talking about how the prevalence of cameras and photography in our society has resulted in a change of how we document and share our lives. Some photographers lament the fact that it seems everyone thinks they’re a photographer now, but I think it’s awesome.

If you’re in the Seattle area I’d love to have you in attendance. Ignite Seattle 13 starts at 7pm at the King Cat Theatre; admission is $5.

Always Learning Photography: Refining My Skills

One thing that’s a common trait amongst professionals is that they will always be seeking ways to further their education in their field. Earlier this week I attended a seminar by master photographer Clay Blackmore. Topics included portraiture, posing, and lighting. I came away with some new tips to refine my technique and create even stronger images for my clients.

I hope that regardless of your area of expertise that you’re always striving for improvement. I enjoy learning new things and honing my skills so that I can continue to produce great photography of people, events, and businesses in the Portland Vancouver area.

Small Business Photography in the Portland Area

One of my favorite services is working with small businesses to create photos of their spaces, people, and events. It’s fun to see the various uses that clients have for these photos. Some use them for print materials like brochures or a newsletter. Others will use the photos on their website or blog. I know my photos appear on at least a few business cards. I’m biased, but I’m pretty sure every single business (whether it’s a solo entrepreneur up through a megacorporation) needs quality business photos.

Contact me about photos of your people, your location, or your event. Let’s work together to share what’s great about your small business!
