I’ll be sharing five memorable images from 2011 this week. It was challenging to narrow the year down to five images since there are so many more memories and stories that didn’t make the cut. That said, let’s get started; I’ll be presenting the images in the order they were made.

As a photographer involved with the community surrounding the WordPress blogging software, I attend a few events each year to share my blog knowledge with others, pick up some new tips for myself, and interact with the community. At WordCamp Seattle in April, I made photos of a bunch of folks including WordPress core developer Andrew Nacin. It was great to meet him in real life after having only previously interacted online and I enjoyed creating photos of the various attendees including Nacin.
As we wrap up 2011 and move into the new year, one area I’ll be expanding business is into the realm of fine art, attempting to do some offline sharing of work that has for the most part existed only in electronic form. I have a lot of fun creating abstract photo art, and I think this will be the first area I tackle in seriously offering my work for sale in a tangible form.
I’m currently evaluating options for what I will offer. Large prints? Canvas? Metal? If you have any specific thoughts about what sort of form you’d be interested in seeing artwork, I’d love to hear from you either with a comment or by sending me an email.
Yesterday my pro photo lab informed me of a special deal they’re offering on the very nice Giclée Canvas Gallery Wraps that they offer, and I decided to pass that deal along by extending a special offer for the next three days. This is for an archival quality canvas wrap mounted on 1 1/2″ frame for a nice display on a wall.
Just in time for the holidays, choose any of these three images which are amongst my most popular photos for print sales:
I’m passing along my vendor’s 15% discount and offering two sizes of canvas gallery wraps which would be a great holiday gift for a friend, relative, or yourself:
- 12″ x 18″: $119 (regularly $140)
- 24″ x 36″: $249 (regularly $295)
A shipping fee of $10 covers drop shipment to your location. Sales tax applies for Washington state residents. These prices are valid for US addresses only.
This offer is only valid through Friday, December 9th. If you’re interested, please email aaron@hockleyphoto.com and indicate which image and size you’d like. I’ll provide further details on payment and shipping at that time.
Over the weekend I had the opportunity to photograph the Washington state 4A high school football championship game at the Tacoma Dome. While I don’t usually do sports photography it’s an area I’m exploring and I had a good time creating some images from the game. Here are a few favorites.

I’m wrapping up a project to produce my first photo book. Titled Alcatraz Views, the book is a collection of photographs documenting Alcatraz. “The Rock” has been a military fort, a military prison, a federal prison, and now a tourist attraction. Photos are accompanied by descriptive text narrating the story of the island and the images.
The book is currently in production and I’m ensuring that everything is up to the desired level of quality. My goal is to have Alcatraz Views available for sale beginning in early December so that it’s ready for those looking for a great Christmas gift for anyone who appreciates photography and history.
Alcatraz Views will be available either as a softcover book with images on a nice lustre paper or in electronic format viewable on an iPad. Stay tuned!
